Huawei, Eleven Other Firms to Join Symbian Foundation

Chinese telecom equipment provider Huawei and eleven other partners planned to join the non-profit Symbian Foundation, which is led by Nokia, Reuters reported on October 22. Aside from Huawei, other new members include ARM, CieNET, Flander, FUJISOFT, Inmote, InnoPath Software, Red Bend, Scalado, Symsource, TRANGO Virtual Processors and Visa. This brings the number of members of the Foundation to a total of 52.

According to the same source, Nokia stated that the first Symbian Foundation software is expected to be launched in 2009, and a new platform will become available by June 2010.
